Tyler, The Creator's recent change of his Twitter handle was a strategic move. The "Yonkers" rapper recently explained that he switched his infamous @fucktyler handle to his official stage name to be more palatable to businesses.

"My stock just went up because of that name change and only idiots won't understand that," Tyler said in an interview at AfroPunk 2016. "How can I contact corporations like, 'Yo, invest a bunch of money in me. I got a bunch of really good ideas.' And they don't reply me. Oh yeah, my name has this in it. That first impression is automatically out the window."

Although Tyler, The Creator is an established artist with a large fan base to tap into, he said his off color remarks and Twitter handle put a stop to potential business opportunities.

"People still scared. You could just Google my name and the first stuff that comes up is not flowers and pretty stuff," Tyler said with a smile. "It is some naughty shit, so I gotta work my way up."

Tyler asserted that his Twitter handle change was no big deal. It was simply a case of him moving on to a new stage in his career.

"I was just over it," he said. "Plus people like... If you don't know much of me but you wanna get into it, you don't know @fucktyler's my thing. So I should just change it to my stage name. Like why not? It's nothing crazy. I just had a bunch of gnarly tweets under that name. I'm just putting that era to rest."

The Odd Future founder was also asked about if he had publicly spoke out against some of the offensive things he used to rap about such as rape. Tyler said yes but explained why he won't apologize for it.

"Of course. I'm not gonna apologize for the things I said because at the time, that shit was cool," he said. "We was just young and having fun and saying crazy stuff. But I'm not gonna write a stupid press release."
