Louisiana's Ragin’ Cajun baseball team learned on Monday that they are the #6 national seed heading into NCAA Regional play this weekend at M.L. “Tigue” Moore Field.

Louisiana will be the top-seed this weekend, when they host a tough Lafayette, La. Regional, which will also includes second-seeded Mississippi State, third-seeded San Diego State, and fourth-seeded Jackson State, with play beginning on Friday.

Louisiana (53-7), who won the regular season Sun Belt Conference championship, as well as the postseason Sun Belt Conference Tournament,  will face Southwestern Athletic Conference Champion Jackson State (31-23) on Friday evening at 6 o'clock , while Mississippi State, out of the SEC, who finished the season at 37-22, will face San Diego State, (42-19) the Mountain West Conference Tournament Champion, in the regional opener at 1 pm.

On Monday, the Cajuns were named a national seed for the first time in program history. Here's their reaction:

Because Louisiana is a national seed, should they win the regional this weekend, they would also host an NCAA Super Regional, against the winner of the Oxford, Mississippi regional.

Head coach Tony Robichaux says the regional is a tough one, but it's postseason play, so that should be expected:

Junior second baseman Jace Conrad said the UL baseball watched in the lobby of a hotel, as the UL softball team secured a berth to the 2014 Women's College World Series, and now the Cajun baseball team gets to play in front of the home crowd, which should be a big advantage this weekend:
