Louisiana Ragin’ Cajun outfielder Haley Hayden is closing in on a school record.

The senior from Monroe has scored 239 runs during her career.

That’s now only 4 behind the career leader, Nerissa Myers, who scored 243 runs between 2010-2013.

Remarkably consistent throughout her career with the Cajuns, Hayden scored 60 runs as a freshman, 66 as a sophomore, and 63 as a junior.

Through 42 games this season, Hayden has scored 50 runs.

Averaging a little over one scored per game, and with 6 regular season games remaining, Hayden is on pace to set the new record before the start of postseason.

As a matter of fact, Hayden could possibly break the all-time school record this weekend, when the Cajuns host Coastal Carolina Chanticleers in a three-game league series at Lamson.

That would be ironic, as those games will represent the final home games of the regular season, and the final scheduled games for Hayden at Lamson Park, the same place she scored her first career run back in 2014, in her first career game, against Northern Iowa, in the Louisiana Classic Tournament.

Keep in mind though; postseason stats also count, and with  UL playing an average of 9-and-a-half postseason games over the last two seasons, Hayden could score an additional 10 runs, depending on how far the Cajuns advance.

Unless something unforeseen happens, Hayden will end her career as the all-time school leader in runs scored.

This season, Hayden, a three-time All-Louisiana first team selection, is hitting a .391, the highest of her four seasons, to go along with 11 home runs and 52 runs batted in.

Hayden has been exceptionally good in the month of May, hitting over a .500, with 7 homers.

Playing on the same team with All-Americans such as Lexie Elkins, Aleah Craighton, Christina Hamilton, and Alex Stewart, along with DJ Sanders, who currently leads the nation in homers, the exploits of Hayden have flown under the radar a little bit. But the career mark that she is certain to set will validate Hayden as one of the best in program history.

It sure would be special if Hayden eclipsed the record on Senior Weekend, in front of the Louisiana fans.
