GUEYDAN, La. (AP) — Vermilion Parish sheriff’s deputies say the pilot of a crop duster has died in a crash near Gueydan (GAY’-dahn).

Sheriff Mike Couvillon says the plane went down in a field around 8:24 a.m. Tuesday off Ellis Bridge Road.

Couvillon says the deputies are withholding the victim’s name pending notification of next of kin.

The sheriff says the scene is secure and they are waiting officials from the Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation and Safety Board to investigate the crash.
