It's no secret that Kanye West adores his late mother Dr. Donda West. He has dedicated songs to her ('Hey Mama') and has launched a design company in honor of her called DONDA Foundation. The strength of their mother-and-son bond recently surfaced in a dated video on YouTube.

The 2003 clip, titled 'Like Mother, Like Son,' features a young Kanye with his mother at their home in Chicago recalling his earlier rhyme that she felt was worth a "million dollars." Dr. West seems to remember the rap more vividly than her son does as she recites a couple of bars. Soon Ye remembers the song and finishes the verse. "Hard about the streets / But the streets are kinda hard / But here's another fact that we can't disregard / Black on black crime is a stab in my back / It really hurts my soul when I hear about that," he spits.

"I love that rap," says Dr. West in the video. But then she asked Kanye, "You didn't think it was good?... It was mad wack, huh?"

"Nah, it's good. That shows you if you have a rap that actually means something it's good," responds Kanye. "It will stand the test of time if you say something."

Kanye has plenty of rap songs and albums that have stood the test of time. We don't know if his newest project 'Cruel Summer' will follow in the same fashion, but it's currently one of the hottest downloads on the Internet.

West's rapping skills also helped him earn a mind-boggling 17 nominations (out of 19 categories) for the 2012 BET Hip-Hop Awards, including Lyricist of the Year. Hopefully, we get to see West perform at the awards ceremony, which airs on BET Oct. 9 at 8PM ET.
