Fifty-one-year-old Frances Cunha was found dead behind a fire station by Opelousas Police.

"They observed her lying near the fence line. She was deceased upon the police's arrival," says OPD Sergeant Jody White.

He says a firefighter spotted the deceased homeless woman, who apparently spent Sunday night into Monday morning in sub-freezing temps.

"Apparently, she had been out there through the night, through the cold temperatures and, of course, you know, her body couldn't sustain the cold temperature," White said.

A local funeral home has Cunha's body as they search for one of her relatives.
