The web site Movoto.com has been coming up with some interesting blogs about our great state of Louisiana.

This blog is about 'Things that mean something entirely different in Louisiana.'  These things are what makes Louisiana unique and great and we like it that way.

Here are some things they missed:

Dressed

What it means everywhere else: Putting your clothes on

What it means in Louisiana:  Lettuce, pickle, tomato and Mayo on a po-boy or any sandwich.

Neutral Ground

What it means everywhere else:  Median

What it means in Louisiana: The land in the middle that divides streets, grassy strip in the middle of a road. Also where we set up camp for parades.

Do-do ( pronounced doe-doe)

What it means everywhere else: That bird that went extinct.

What it means in Louisiana: Going to sleep/take a nap

What it means everywhere else: Someone without money.  or Hoagie

What it means in Louisiana: Fried shrimp, oyster or roast beef on french bread.

This is just some of the words that we use in Louisiana.  There is also words like:

Buku - A lot of something

Making groceries - Buying groceries  ( This might just be a New Orleans thing)

Who Dat - A chant at a Saints game. Can also be used when someone is talking about any other NFL team but the Saints. You just holla "WHO DAT" and that ends all conversation.

Bobo (pronounced bow-bow)- scrape or wound

The more I sit here and write this, I really think that Louisiana has our own language. There should be a Louisiana dictionary.

Check out Movoto.com for their entire list of 'Things that mean something entirely different in Louisiana.'
