Of of the great things about living in Louisiana is the food festivals and cook offs for each season, and we can always look forward to a plethora of gumbo cook offs in the fall.

The 27th annual World Championship Gumbo Cook Off is set for October 8 and 9 in downtown New Iberia, and what an epic event this has turned out to be!

Sponsored by the Greater Iberia Chamber of Commerce, this two day family friendly festival is a celebration of everything we love about fall – great cajun cuisine and music in a setting along beautiful Bayou Teche. On Saturday, you can peruse the 'Cajun Creole Food Fest' with teams cooking everything from fricassee to red beans and rice, with mini competitions going on for 'Meanest Beans' and Youth Gumbo cook Off.

On Sunday, over 100 amateur and professional teams will compete in the main Gumbo Cook Off at Bouligny Plaza, with tickets available for purchase throughout the day for tastings. There is also a free shuttle available on Sunday from Musson Patout Automotive on 214 W. Hwy. 90/Frontage Rd. to the corner of French and Main Street in New Iberia.

The local entertainment is fantastic, and there is also a 5K Roux run, and children's activities. Check out the schedule of events, and make plans to head to beautiful downtown New Iberia for this beloved annual event!
