The 28th annual World Championship Gumbo Cookoff will be held in downtown New Iberia on October 14th and 15th at Bouligny Plaza. This wildly popular annual event promises to bring out the best amateur and professional chefs for some world class cajun cuisine, sha! The theme this year is 'The Power of Roux', so be on the look out for some awesome costumes to go along with the theme.

Saturday, October 14 is the Cajun Creole Foodfest, and that includes two competitions, 'Meanest Beans' and 'Youth Gumbo Cook-off'. There is also a 5K Roux Run, and music from Chubby Carrier 11:00am - 12:30 pm, Hwy 90 1:00 pm - 3:30 pm, Two in the Chamber 4:00 pm - 5:30 pm, Jaryd Lane 6:00 - 8:00 pm, and Jason Miller Band 8:30 pm - 10:30 pm.

Sunday, October 15, over 100 teams will compete for gumbo honors, with serving beginning at 11:00 am. Music from Geno Delafose and French Rockin' Boogie is 10:00 am - 12:30 pm, and Roddie Romero and the Hub City All Stars 1:00 pm - 3:30 pm. The awards will be given out at 3:30.

Tickets will be available for gumbo tasting, food, and beverages. No ice chests will be allowed. Check out a video of the fun in previous years below.
