It's official: WrestleMania will be celebrating its 30th anniversary New Orleans style! WWE announced live this afternoon that WrestleMania - undoubtably their biggest event of the year - will be held April 6, 2014 at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome in New Orleans.

WrestleMania continues to grow year after year, and with the success of major sporting events like the Super Bowl and NBA All-Star Weekend, its only fitting that WWE brings their marquee event to the Big Easy. New Orleans Mayor Mitch Landrieu elaborated on what bringing WrestleMania to New Orleans means to the city.

We are proud to have played host to some of the greatest sports and entertainment events in the world over the past two years, and hosting WrestleMania is a great way to continue this unprecedented streak. We look forward to hosting WWE and its global fan base as they celebrate this historic milestone at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome.

In the past, WWE has followed tradition by bringing WrestleMania to Madison Square Garden every 10 years. This was the site of the very first WrestleMania back in 1985. With the rapid rate that WWE and Wrestlemania's popularity continues to grow, an arena that only seats 20,000 is not ideal for business, or from a fans perspective.

By making this move, WrestleMania will be able to expand its horizons and build upon the successful brand that it has already built. It is definitely a big change, but Vince McMahon is no stranger to building upon new ideas and exploring new territory. I'm willing to go out on a limb and say this won't hurt WWE or Wrestlemania one bit.
