2 Deaf Men Stabbed After Sign Language Was Mistaken For Gang Signs [VIDEO]

This is one of the most messed up stories of 2011 so far on SO many levels. Two deaf men who were celebrating a birthday with friends late Saturday Night are now in the hospital recovering from stab wounds after a woman mistook their sign language for gang signs.

Police say 45-year-ol Barbara Lee confronted 31-year-old Alfred Stewart and three others for "throwing gang signs" toward her. Witnesses say that Stewart and his party, all whom are deaf, motioned for the woman to leave them alone. It was then that Lee left and then quickly returned with a juvenile and 19-year-old Marco Ibanez, at which point all hell broke loose. After all was said and done, the deaf men had suffered stab wounds to the stomach and back and a bouncer had even had a bottle smashed over his head for getting involved.

Both Lee and Ibanez were arrested and charged with assault with a deadly weapon while the victims are still hospitalized and recovering.

I've always believed there should be special justice in cases like this and it pains me to think that the hooligans that bullied these impaired victims will probably catch a break when all is said and done. It makes me sick.
