Just under 60% of American workers surveyed think that the changes to the workplace - and their daily work regimen - has been for the better. Those are the results of a recent poll by personal finance website, WalletHub, in their Coronavirus and Working from Home Survey.

WalletHub’s survey asked Americans what they thought about working from home during the Coronavirus pandemic and how they feel about returning to the office, either full or part time. Questions included how being at home has affected productivity and what, if anything, people miss most about their workplace.

Among the WalletHub survey highlights, prior to the COVID 19 pandemic, only about one in four American workers worked from home (full or part time) and just 14.5 percent worked exclusively from home all week. But now, with social distancing and other stay-at-home restrictions lessening, Americans, both managers and employees, are considering what lasting changes Coronavirus quarantines may have on the workplace. Interestingly, almost six in ten Americans think COVID 19 has changed the way we work for the better.

Here are more of the WalletHub survey's more interesting findings:

  • Harsh penalties for not returning to the workplace. A third of Americans believe that businesses should fire employees who refuse to go back to work.
  • Parents’ work efficiency may suffer at home. Around 50 percent of parents with young children at home don’t think they are more productive working from home.
  • Working from home seen as the future. Almost a third of Americans think that physical offices are a thing of the past.
  • Positive changes to the work environment. Almost 60 percent of Americans think COVID-19 has changed the way we work for the better.

And when it came to what workers miss most about the workplace, missing co-workers topped the list at 32%. And what came in second at 27%? Nothing. That's right, as in, nearly one in three don't miss a thing about going to the office.
