Abbeville Popeye’s Altercation Ends In Shootout That Injures Two

According to investigators, officers were first dispatched to the Popeye's restaurant after receiving reports of customers fighting.

When officers arrived, they found Xavion Broussard and Anayla Williams involved in a verbal altercation. Police said the restaurant manager requested that everyone involved leave the property, and both parties went their separate ways without any arrests being made at that time.

Shooting Reported Hours Later

Around 5:30 p.m., Abbeville Police were called to the 600 block of Hawthorne Street after reports of gunfire.

During the investigation, detectives reviewed surveillance and video evidence that allegedly showed Broussard's vehicle being followed from the earlier Popeye's incident to Hawthorne Street, where police say his grandmother lives.

Police Say Both Sides Exchanged Gunfire

Investigators say occupants of a silver Chevrolet Malibu exited their vehicle and began shooting toward Broussard.

Police allege Broussard returned fire, striking both the driver and a rear-seat passenger inside the Malibu.

The vehicle fled the area before being located on the 1500 block of Graceland, where Acadian Ambulance responded. The two people who were shot were transported to a local hospital for treatment. Authorities have not released updated information on their conditions.

Abbeville Police say the case remains under investigation, and additional details could be released as detectives continue gathering evidence and interviewing witnesses.
