UPDATE: Acadiana High Student Succumbs to Injuries After Being Shot In Scott

A shooting in Scott has left an Acadiana High student in critical condition, according to the Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Office.

According to LPSS, the Acadiana High School student has died.

The Lafayette Parish School System is deeply saddened by the tragic loss of an Acadiana High School student who was also a student at the W.D. & Mary Baker Smith Career Center. To support students and staff during this difficult time, additional counselors will be available on campus for anyone who may need support or a space to talk. There have been no arrests made in connection with the shooting.

Authorities say the incident happened Sunday at an apartment complex located on Sweetbriar Street. The student was transported to a local hospital, where he remains in critical condition.

Staff Sergeant Chris Cormier confirmed the victim’s status but said limited details are being released as the investigation remains ongoing.

Community Describes Victim As Quiet And Kind

Neighbors in the area say the teen is well known in the community and described him as a respectful and soft-spoken young man.

Residents who spoke about the incident said the shooting has "shaken" those who live nearby, especially given the victim’s reputation as a “sweet kid” who kept to himself.

School System Providing Support To Students

In response to the shooting, the Lafayette Parish School System says additional resources are being made available at Acadiana High.

Officials confirmed that counselors will be on campus to support both students and staff as they process what happened.

“To support students and staff during this difficult time, additional counselors will be available on campus for anyone who may need support or space to talk,” a spokesperson said.
