Can we at least try to save Mardi Gras parades in 2021?

It seems like each day now a city or town in Acadiana is announcing that they are cancelling all Mardi Gras festivities in 2021.

I do not need to tell you how much we look forward to Mardi Gras in south Louisiana and we also know the impact it has on our local economy.

With all of that said, hearing that parades won't happen in early 2021 is discouraging, but understandable as we continue to battle COVID-19. However, has anyone considered rescheduling Mardi Gras parades in Acadiana?

In Metairie, Mardi Gras parades may be rescheduled to late May and early June, pending we have made progress in our battle against COVID-19.

Can't we do likewise here in Acadiana? Sure, Mardi Gras balls and other festivities surrounding Mardi Gras would have to be put on hold until 2022, but can we not at least TRY to have the parades later in the year?

If parades were to be rescheduled for later in the year in Acadiana this would give all of us something to look forward to and it would also help some local businesses begin recovering after shutdowns and lockdowns in 2020-21.

I know that is easier said than done, but I would hope that someone in Acadiana would at least consider the idea of rescheduling Mardi Gras parades in 2021.

And yes, if things aren't better in mid-to-late 2021, we will just have to wait for 2022 to celebrate Mardi Gras.

Now, please allow me to move on and grab a slice of King Cake.
