Apply Now for Your Share of Facebook $725 Million Settlement
If you're in Louisiana and you're a user of Facebook you might have some money coming to you as part of a legal settlement made with the social media giant. If you were a Facebook user in 2018 or the years previous you could be eligible for monetary compensation as part of a class action lawsuit that was brought against Meta, Facebook's parent company.
A federal judge has recently given approval to a settlement arrangement between Meta and lawyers representing multiple plaintiffs in multiple class action lawsuits against the company. The class action suits stemming from the Cambridge Analytica scandal which was brought to light back in 2018. Although Meta denies allegations it shared user data, aka your personal information, with third parties without permission the company has agreed to the massive settlement in the case.
In order to receive compensation or be considered for the compensation you will have to apply. You will have to have been a Facebook user on the social media platform between May 24, 2007, and December 22, 2022. Even if you have multiple Facebook accounts you may only file one claim.
There are two ways to apply. The first is to follow this link to the online application. You can also use this link to download the application form. You will then need to mail that application form to Facebook Consumer Privacy User Profile Litigation, c/o Settlement Administrator, 1650 Arch Street, Suite 2210, Philadelphia, PA 19103.
Other information you will need to supply includes your Facebook username or a phone number associated with your account. You will also need to provide basic contact information and the method you'd like to use for your payment if any is owed. Among the payment choices are prepaid MasterCard, PayPal, Venmo, Zelle, or a check.
The deadline for submitting a claim is August 25th, 2023 at 11:59 pm Pacific Time. Exactly how much each plaintiff will receive will be determined by the number of people who apply and are deemed eligible for compensation. Speculation is that the attorneys, in this case, will receive about 25% of the settlement money, and the remainder will go to plaintiffs.
