Officers with the Oakdale Police Department working with help from the Rayne Police Department have made an arrest in a counterfeit money scheme that's surfaced in the area. Oakdale Police say Brent Williamson of Kinder was arrested after a search of his home turned up a counterfeit money operation.

Authorities say Williamson was modifying $10 bills and turning them into $100 bills. The fact that the fake money was printed on real money allowed the bills to pass an ink test.

Two banks reported receiving counterfeit bills in deposits made from four area business over the past few days. The businesses had accepted the bills as legitimate but upon further review, it was determined the bills were indeed counterfeit.

The Rayne Police became involved after officers in Oakdale noted that Williamson had been arrested in Rayne earlier in the month for allegedly passing fake bills in that town. Officials say the bills recovered in Kinder had serial numbers that matched the bills that were passed in Rayne earlier in the month.

Law enforcement officials say their investigation is ongoing. Meanwhile, Williamson has been charged with four counts of monetary instrument abuse.
