Audubon Aquarium Needs Your Help In Naming A New Sea Otter
Otter's are the Disc Jockeys of the animal world. They seem to just float around, have fun, and eat. I don't mean to disparage my craft and the hard work of the others around the radio station but we all know it's true. Otters and DJ's like being anything but grown-ups.
While the Audubon Nature Institute of New Orleans has had its share of not so good fortune this week, they lost a white tiger and one of their gorillas conked a pregnant woman on the head with a chunk of wood, we do have some good news to report.
The Audubon Aquarium of the Americas has acquired a brand new sea otter. She will become a companion to the aquarium's other otter, Clara. The issue with this brand new otter is she needs a name. That's where you come into the picture.
The new name for the fun and furry creature will be one of three choices. It could be Ruby. It could be Pearl. It might be Charley. If you're wondering how the aquarium came up with these choices it is because of a unique tradition. All animals associated with the Sea Otter Research and Conservation program are named after author John Steinback characters.
Charley is chosen from the Steinbeck novel Travels with Charley. Ruby was also chosen from that same novel. Pearl was selected from another Steinbeck novel. So, which one do you like best? You can cast your vote here on the Audubon Institute website. The winning name will be announced on March 16th.
As you can see in this video from NOLA.com these little critters seem to just enjoy life.
