Fresh Prince Of Bel-Air’s Janet Hubert Rips Jada Pinkett-Smith For Boycotting Oscars [VIDEO]
Janet Hubert, a.k.a. the original Aunt Viv from Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, tore into Jada Pinkett-Smith for her boycott of the Academy Awards.
The self-proclaimed "blacktress" posted a video to YouTube ripping 44-year-old Pinkett-Smith for suggesting a boycott of the Oscars for the lack of diversity surrounding this year's nominations.
It should be noted that the 60-year-old actress doesn't have the best history with Jada's husband, Will, and the long-standing feud over their Fresh Prince of Bel-Air fallout is well documented online if you dare to dig into it.
The short version is that Hubert played Aunt Vivian on the show from 1990 to 1993 when she was replaced by Daphne Maxwell-Reid. "Creative differences" along with tension with Smith and other castmates have always been cited as the reason for her exit from the show.
Even though it has been reported that Hubert's hard feelings have softened over time, she clearly isn't the biggest Will Smith fan.
First of all, Miss Thing does your man not have a mouth of his own with which to speak?
Hubert pulled no punches, pointing out that Pinkett-Smith was calling for a boycott of a system that she not only used to become successful, but allegedly parallels when it comes to how she runs her production company.
I find it ironic that somebody who has made their living, and made millions and millions of dollars from the very people you're talking about boycotting just because you didn't get a nomination, just because you didn't win.
She also stated there were more important issues that Pinkett-Smith could take a stance on.
there's a lot of s--- going on in the world that you all don't seem to recognize. People are dying. Our boys are being shot left and right. People are starving. People are trying to pay bills. And you're talking about some motherf---ing actors and Oscars. It just ain't that deep,
Academy president Cheryl Boone Isaacs did acknowledge the issue by releasing an official statement addressing the backlash due to non-white actors getting shut out of the Oscar nominations.
Do you think Hubert has a point, or is she still salty over her feud with Will Smith?
