‘Blue Mass’ to Honor First Responders Set for Today
Most of us when we get up every morning to head to our jobs won't ever have to stop and think that what we are about to do to provide for our family could ultimately cost us our lives. That is the honest truth of what every man and woman who works in the field of law enforcement face every day.
Today, October 2nd, a special Mass will be celebrated by the Diocese of Lafayette to honor and pray for the men and women who have made it their sworn duty to protect and serve our communities. Today also happens to be the Feast Day of the Guardian Angels. I don't think there could be a more appropriate day for this special Mass.
The Mass will be conducted by Bishop Douglas Deshotel. It is scheduled for 12:05 this afternoon at the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist in Lafayette. The purpose of the Mass is to say thank you and to offer prayers of support and safety for local law enforcement personnel, state troopers, firefighters, emergency medical professionals, and others who put their lives on the line to protect life and property across Acadiana.
If you're unable to attend the Mass in person but would still like to participate, the Diocese of Lafayette will make the service available online through the Diocese of Lafayette website. You may also use this YouTube link to experience the service as well.
