Truck Goes Over I-10 Bridge In Lake Charles After Crash

A dramatic and dangerous scene unfolded early Sunday morning on the I-10 Calcasieu River Bridge in Lake Charles after a crash involving multiple vehicles led to a truck going over the side of the bridge.

Authorities tell KPLC the initial crash happened around 6:17 a.m. in the eastbound lanes when a single vehicle struck the barrier. That impact set off a chain reaction involving at least four vehicles.

Emergency crews responded quickly, and three people were transported to a nearby hospital with what officials described as minor injuries.

Bucket Truck Goes Over The Side

While first responders were still working the initial crash scene, a second incident made the situation even more intense.

Police say a bucket truck traveling nearby attempted to avoid debris left in the roadway. In doing so, the driver swerved, crossed into westbound traffic, and ultimately went over the side of the bridge near its base.

Miraculously, authorities say the driver of the bucket truck was not injured.

The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development confirmed that the right lane of I-10 westbound over the Calcasieu River Bridge remains closed for inspection and repairs following the crash.
