Two of the fastest-growing cities in Lafayette Parish are joining forces on a major traffic project aimed at improving safety and efficiency.

The cities of Broussard and Youngsville have agreed to construct a roundabout at the intersection of North Larriviere Road and Young Street, also known as Highway 92. The project will replace the current four-way stop that many drivers navigate daily.

Broussard Mayor Ray Bourque confirmed the agreement, noting that the Broussard City Council unanimously approved the partnership through an intergovernmental agreement.

Focus On A Busy School Corridor

City leaders say the targeted intersection is one of the most heavily traveled in the area, particularly during morning and afternoon school hours.

The location is a key route for parents and students traveling to and from Southside High School, often leading to congestion and delays during peak times.

Officials believe converting the intersection into a roundabout will help improve traffic flow while also reducing the likelihood of serious crashes.

Funding And Design Already Underway

Youngsville Mayor Ken Ritter shared that the project is already moving forward, with design work currently underway.

According to Ritter, approximately 80 percent of the project will be funded through a competitive grant, significantly reducing the financial burden on local taxpayers. The remaining costs will be split between the two cities.

A Growing Region Investing In Infrastructure

Both mayors highlighted the project as an example of regional cooperation between two rapidly expanding communities.

As development continues across Broussard and Youngsville, infrastructure improvements like this roundabout are seen as critical investments to keep up with population growth and increased traffic demands.

Leaders say the collaboration reflects a shared "commitment to long-term planning" and "improving quality of life for residents" across the region.
