Buc-ee’s Confirms Earlier Opening Date For Lafayette Store
The long-anticipated Buc-ee’s location in Lafayette is officially moving forward faster than expected.
According to a report from The Acadiana Advocate, Buc-ee’s now expects its Lafayette store to open by July 2027. That timeline is earlier than a previous document that suggested the opening would not happen until 2028.
The massive travel center is planned for the corner of Louisiana Avenue and Interstate 10. A company spokesperson confirmed the updated timeline and said the company is excited to expand into Lafayette.
Site Work Already Underway
While no building permits have been issued by Lafayette Consolidated Government, crews have already been working at the site. Recent activity includes bringing in fill dirt to elevate the property, which sits in a flood zone.
If the July 2027 target holds, construction could begin as early as late spring of this year. Buc-ee’s previously told local officials the project would take about 13 months to complete, though the company often builds in extra time to account for weather and other delays.
Economic Impact And Jobs
Mandi Mitchell, president and CEO of the Lafayette Economic Development Authority, said the accelerated timeline is welcome news.
The Lafayette Buc-ee’s is expected to include a 74,000 square foot store, roughly 120 gas pumps, and nearly 700 parking spaces. LEDA estimates the location could generate about $1.5 million annually in sales tax revenue and employ around 150 people.
Road Improvements Planned Near I-10
To prepare for increased traffic, several infrastructure upgrades are planned near the site. Those include extending a third right lane from the westbound I-10 exit, installing a new traffic signal south of the interstate, and adding a third lane along Louisiana Avenue between Buc-ee’s and the westbound entrance ramp.

Second Buc-ee’s In Louisiana
When it opens, the Lafayette location is expected to be the second Buc-ee’s in Louisiana. A Ruston store broke ground in October and is projected to take about 15 to 16 months to complete. Buc-ee’s also recently opened a location in Pass Christian, Mississippi, in June.
For Lafayette drivers, the countdown now feels a lot more real.
