Check Out Poverty Point, Louisiana’s Own Stonehenge
Stonehenge in England has long been a source of fascination, and mystery. Did you know Louisiana has such a place of its own? It's called Poverty Point. Very little is known about it. poverty Point was built by hand between 1700-1100 B.C. It's an elaborate system of ridges and earthen mounds, covering more than 400 acres. Poverty Point is located near Pioneer, Louisiana. It's shrouded in mystery. Pioneer Point's inhabitants left no written history. It is known the site was abandoned around 1100 B.C. Poverty Point Heritage Site is open to tourists from 9-5 every day except Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year's. Admission is very affordable.
