Last weekend while DJing a wedding reception, I witnessed the "fake wedding exit" for the very first time.

About halfway through the wedding reception, the photographer asked me to announce that everyone exit the building and "pretend" to be sending off the bride and groom.

At first, I was in shock. You want me to ask people to exit the building NOW?!?! Yes, that's precisely what they wanted me to do.

The photographer was "booked" until 9:30 P.M., which meant she wouldn't be there at the end of the reception, when the bride and groom left. So what do you do? You have the bride and groom "Exit" their reception before its actually over.

The guests all went out front and lit their sparklers, then the bride and groom "left" the building. But they didn't get in the limo and drive-off. Nope, they returned into the reception hall and continued to party.

And while it was a bit difficult to start the party all over again, all seemed to enjoy themselves. But I had never seen the "fake exit" until now. You see, we truly do learn something new everyday.

And according to the venue where I was playing, the "fake exit" isn't that uncommon. Are photographers really leaving the reception before it ends? Apparently. But in their defense, photographers do have a long day on a couple's wedding day.

Let me note here, this is NOT a knock on photographers. Perhaps the booking process has changed and now this part of a package offered. In any event, "Laissez Les Bon Temps Rouler."

What do you think about this practice? Would you ever consider performing the "fake exit" at your reception? Let us know in the comment section below.
