Crowley Man Accused Of Violent Crime Spree Across Two Parishes Ends In Officer-Involved Shooting
Louisiana State Police have released new details about a violent series of events that unfolded across St. Landry and Acadia parishes, culminating in an officer-involved shooting, a high-speed pursuit, and a dramatic crash in Crowley.
Authorities say 35-year-old Dusty Rudolph Johnson of Crowley now faces a lengthy list of felony charges after what investigators describe as a crime spree that included an attempted kidnapping, armed robbery, carjacking, arson, multiple crashes, and gunfire directed at both civilians and law enforcement officers.
Investigators Detail Events That Began In Eunice
According to Louisiana State Police, the incident began when Johnson allegedly drove a Chevrolet Trax to a residence in Eunice and threatened the homeowner with a firearm while attempting to kidnap them. Investigators say he then stole the victim's 2019 GMC Sierra pickup truck.
Troopers say Johnson later traveled to a gas station where he allegedly fired shots at a patron. While the individual was not struck, authorities say the victim's vehicle was hit by gunfire.
The situation escalated further when Johnson reportedly returned to the Eunice residence, crashed into a vehicle parked in the driveway, and intentionally set the Chevrolet Trax on fire.
Gunfire Exchanged With Police
When officers with the Eunice Police Department responded to the scene, investigators say Johnson opened fire on arriving officers. Police returned fire, striking Johnson during the confrontation.
Despite being wounded, authorities say Johnson fled in the stolen GMC Sierra, triggering a pursuit that would cross parish lines.

Pursuit Ends With Violent Crash In Crowley
During the chase, investigators say Johnson struck another vehicle but continued fleeing from officers.
The pursuit eventually came to an end near Louisiana Highway 13 and Louisiana Highway 1111 in Crowley when Johnson was involved in another crash. Video circulating online shows the violent aftermath of the wreck, which marked the end of the pursuit.
Johnson was taken into custody and transported to a hospital with injuries that authorities described as non-life-threatening. After receiving medical treatment, he was booked into the St. Landry Parish Jail.

According to Louisiana State Police, Johnson faces the following charges:
- Attempted First-Degree Murder (2 counts)
- Attempted Second-Degree Murder
- Armed Robbery
- Carjacking
- Simple Arson
- Hit And Run Driving (2 counts)
- Simple Criminal Damage To Property
- Attempted Aggravated Kidnapping
- Aggravated Flight From An Officer
- Felon In Possession Of A Firearm
Investigation Remains Active
The Louisiana State Police Bureau of Investigations continues to examine the officer-involved shooting involving members of the Eunice Police Department, Acadia Parish Sheriff's Office, and Louisiana State Police.
Officials say no officers were injured during the incident. The investigation remains active, and additional information could be released as detectives continue reviewing evidence and witness accounts.
