Dense fog caused dangerous travel conditions in South Louisiana early Wednesday, forcing the closure of major bridges and disrupting traffic.

The Causeway Bridge is open with restrictions, but delays are significant. Only the right lane is open in both directions, and the speed limit has been lowered to 45 mph. Motorcycles, RVs, and glass trucks are not allowed on the bridge for safety reasons. Causeway Police are adjusting access based on fog conditions. Travelers should follow @Causeway_Police on social media for real-time updates.

Tuesday’s fog led to six crashes on the Causeway Bridge involving over 40 vehicles. The accidents left 33 people injured and created a chaotic scene for emergency responders. Drivers are being urged to use caution to avoid more accidents.

The Bonnet Carré Spillway Bridge is fully closed because of nearly zero visibility. State troopers are redirecting traffic to safer routes. Eastbound drivers on I-10 are being sent to US 51 in LaPlace, then to US 61. Westbound traffic is being rerouted to I-310 south, which also connects to US 61. Southbound drivers on I-55 are being diverted to US 51 and US 61.

If you are traveling this morning, use alternate routes and stay alert. Check Louisiana State Police social media for the latest updates on closures and traffic conditions. Drivers are also reminded to slow down, turn on headlights, and avoid unnecessary trips until the fog clears.
