Wondering What to Do With Your Christmas Tree in Lafayette? Here’s Your Solution
As Lafayette residents bid farewell to the festive season, the city offers a sustainable solution for disposing of Christmas trees. In an environmentally friendly initiative, the city encourages residents of Lafayette and its unincorporated areas to compost their trees.
Curbside Collection for Convenience
Residents can simply place their Christmas trees at the curb on their scheduled garbage and recycling collection days. These trees will be transported to the Dean Domingues Compost Facility, where they will be transformed into valuable, nutrient-rich compost.
Preparation for Composting
To ensure a smooth composting process, trees must be stripped of all ornaments, decorations, lights, and stands. This precaution is vital to prevent contamination and guarantee efficient composting.
Drop-off Option Available
For those who prefer a hands-on approach, the Dean Domingues Compost Facility welcomes residents to drop off their trees at no charge. It’s important to bring an ID confirming residency in the city of Lafayette or its unincorporated areas. Details on the facility's operational hours are available on their website: Composting Services.
Holiday Schedule Notice
Please note that the facility will be closed from Saturday, December 30, to Monday, January 1, in observance of the New Year’s holiday. Operations will resume on Tuesday, January 2.
