Djokovic Outlasts Federer in Historic Wimbledon Marathon

For the first time in Men's Finals' history, Wimbledon went to a fifth set tiebreaker.

And, in the end, the tiebreaker was good to Novak Djokovic.

The Serbian outlasted eight time Wimbledon Champion Roger Federer 7-6(5), 1-6, 7-6(4), 4-6, 13-12(3) to win his fifth title at the All-England Club and his 16th Grand Slam title overall.

It was the longest Men's title match in time in Wimbledon history.

Federer had a golden opportunity in the fifth set, getting a break at 7-7 after a brilliant passing shot and had a 40-15 lead trying to serve out the match. But Djokovic won four straight points to get a break of his own and even the set at 8-8. The Serbian broke Federer in the sixth game of the final set to take a 4-2 lead but Federer broke right back to pull even.

Both men held serve in the first set, and Federer led 5-3 in the tiebreak before Djokovic rattled off four straight points to take the set.

But Federer came roaring back in the second set, breaking Djokovic twice to take a 4-0 lead before Djokovic won his only game of the set. Djokovic regrouped and won the third set in a tiebreak with neither player being broken.

Federer won the fourth set 6-4, despite losing his first game of the match.
