Do not let your kids read this post if they believe in Christmas.

I'm a dad of two young boys and am also a late 80s early 90s child. I grew up watching movies like the Goonies, E.T, Back to the Future etc...

In my house, we try to watch Christmas movies every night leading up to Christmas day. So last night I thought it would be a good idea to show my boys that are 4 and 9-years-old the movie 'Gremlins.' I loved that movie as a kid and watched it multiple times. It had been awhile since I've seen it and I figured they were old enough to watch it. Boy was I wrong!

The movie is still a great classic movie with a Christmas theme. The one thing I didn't remember was the scene where Billy (Zach Galligan) and his girlfriend Kate (Phoebe Cates) were running from all the Gremlins and ran into a store. While in the store, Billy's girlfriend Kate starts talking about how she doesn't like Christmas.

Her back story is, her dad went missing and never came home for Christmas. The cops looked everywhere for him and could never find him. One very cold night Kate and her mom decided to light the fireplace, and it smelled like burning flesh. The fire department  showed up and found Kate's dad in the fireplace. He tried to surprise Kate by dressing up like Santa and got stuck. Then she says: This is how she found out that Santa isn't real!

The scene is below. WARNING DO NOT SHOW THIS TO YOUR KIDS.

LAWD! When my kids heard that part the questions started pouring out! What does she mean that there is no such thing as Santa? My oldest started asking me why no one goes to the North Pole and how come after all these years no one has a picture of Santa. My oldest was like, you know everyone has a cell phone now, but no pictures of Santa? Hmmmmm. His wheels are spinning.

I didn't know what to say, it caught me off guard! I went with, "I didn't hear her say that, and then I said, "how careless was her dad to block Santa from coming down the fireplace, she lost her dad and she didn't get any presents."

Not sure if the oldest is totally convinced that Santa is real. That sure would be a crappy way to find out though. This is my warning to parents. Do not let them watch Gremlins and if you do make sure you mute that part.

Have a great Christmas and Happy Holiday. : )
