While interviewing one of the numerous women who have come forth to accuse Bill Cosby of rape—CNN anchor Don Lemon made a very insensitive suggestion.

Joan Tarshis claims that Bill Cosby raped her twice in 1969, and while detailing the accounts she revealed that she even tried telling Cosby she had an infection in an attempt to prevent him from forcing her to have intercourse. Tarshis said that she was unsuccessful, as Cosby made her perform oral sex instead.

Don Lemon informed Tarshis that "there are ways not to perform oral sex if you didn't want to do it" to which she replied,

I was kind of stoned at the time

As if suggesting that she had a choice in the alleged act wasn't enough, Lemon followed up by asking, "Meaning using of the teeth, right?" to confirm that she understood what he meant by his original comment.

Tarshis said that she was under the influence and that in the moment she "didn't even think of it."

Many people on social media thought that Lemon's comment was a form of victim-blaming—not to mention it was very unnecessary to ask in such a sensitive conversation.

As a victim myself I would never want to suggest that any victim could have prevented a rape. If my question struck anyone as insensitive, I’m sorry as that was not my intention.

So far representatives for Cosby have remained mum on allegations that seemingly continue to come forward on a daily basis.
