Drake Cancels Appearance at 2018 Toronto Film Festival

The film community of Toronto isn't happy after Drake pulled out of a scheduled appearance at the city's 2018 International Film Festival. Drizzy was supposed to appear for the premiere of the film of Monsters and Men, which tells the tale of a Brooklyn community torn apart by police brutality. He cites "scheduling conflicts" as the reason for his no-show.

Many were left confused about the reported scheduling conflict, because Drake isn't supposed to perform on his joint tour with Migos until tomorrow (Sept. 7) in Boston.

A representative for Drake gave an explanation for the last-minute cancelation to ET Canada. “Monsters and Men is a project very close to Drake’s heart but due to scheduling commitments on his current tour he, unfortunately, will not be unable to attend and introduce the film at TIFF," the statement reads. "He wishes the film the utmost success and feels strongly about its ability to positively inspire dialogue.”

The film festival cancelation isn't the first time Drizzy has left his hometown hanging in recent months. Drake postponed the first Toronto show of his Drake and the Three Migos tour, but later visited an 11-year-old heart transplant patient in the hospital, and admitted to her that he'd canceled the show to see her.

Of course, it's possible Drake could just need a break after an exhausting tour run this far. Despite missing the film festival, Drizzy does always give props to his home town. When he did eventually perform in Toronto two weeks ago, he praised his city for its diversity and ability to live harmoniously.

“You see, tonight, we got 17,000 people inside one building from all races, from all places, and all we are doing is just listening to music, and smoking and drinking—and enjoying our lives. And I want you to know that that’s something that I learned right here in Toronto," he said.
