26-year-old Sadie Fontenot of Eunice died overnight in a four-vehicle crash that happened on Interstate 10 near mile marker 77 (west of Crowley) in Acadia Parish. Two other people were killed as well, though their bodies have not been able to be identified yet.

Fontenot was one of two drivers killed. The third victim was a passenger in one of the vehicles.

In a press release, Louisiana State Police spokesman Trooper Thomas Gossen says a vehicle was traveling east in the westbound lanes on I-10 and crashed into another vehicle head-on. Then, a truck collided with one of the vehicles. And the debris from the crashed caused minor damage to a passing 18-wheeler.

Unfortunately, Fontenot was not restrained. Because of how severe the crash was, investigators have yet to determine whether the other deceased driver and passenger was wearing a seat belt. Another passenger in one of the vehicles was wearing a seat belt and is in critical condition in the hospital. Fortunately, the driver of the truck and the 18-wheeler each reported no injuries and were each wearing a seat belt.

Those drivers also submitted breath samples which indicated no alcohol was present.

Authorities continue to investigate after this crash - the 20th fatal crash of 2021 - resulted in 25 deaths since the beginning of 2021 in Troop I.
