A tragic crash in Evangeline Parish has claimed the lives of two men from Mamou following a head on collision late Thursday night.

According to Louisiana State Police Troop I, the crash happened around 10:15 p.m. on April 2 along Louisiana Highway 13 near Mariaun Road, just outside of Eunice.

What investigators say happened

Troopers say a 2008 GMC Sierra, driven by 68 year old Timmy Devillier, was traveling north on Highway 13. At the same time, a 2017 Ford F 150, driven by 25 year old Andrew Godeaux, was traveling south while towing a boat.

For reasons that remain under investigation, authorities say the GMC crossed the centerline and collided head on with the Ford.

Both drivers pronounced dead at the scene

State Police say Devillier, who was properly restrained, suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Godeaux, who was not wearing a seat belt, also sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Ongoing investigation and safety reminder

As part of the investigation, routine toxicology samples were collected and submitted for analysis. Officials say the crash remains under investigation as they work to determine what led to the vehicle crossing the centerline.

Louisiana State Police continue to emphasize the importance of staying alert behind the wheel and always wearing a seat belt. While not every crash is survivable, proper restraint significantly reduces the risk of serious injury or death.
