The 2017 Grammy Awards are officially around the proverbial corner, and more than a few names in the pantheon of current rap stars have been nominated in some of the most popular categories. The event, which is set to take place at the Los Angeles Staples Center this Sunday (Feb. 12), will have the eyes of the music world's full attention when it begins at 8 p.m. ET. Everyone except, apparently, Drake and Kanye West.

This year, it seems like Drizzy and Yeezy will be skipping the 2017 awards show ceremony. The two rappers apparently feel as if the award show is irrelevant, with Yeezy also feeling some type about always losing to White artists. If you've been keeping score of rap history, you already know these sentiments aren't exactly rare.

Still, it's a bit of a shame that the two rappers might not show up for the star-studded award show, seeing as both are nominated for more than a few golden gramophones. Drake brought his rap game dominance to new levels in 2016, and his winning ways have translated to five Grammy nominations in categories for Album of the Year (Views), Best Rap Performance ("Pop Style), Best Rap/Sung Performance ("Hotline Bling"), Best Rap Song ("Hotline Bling") and Best Rap Album (Views).

The ever-defiant Yeezy may not be attending the Grammys, but the awards show committee appears to have shown him a lot of love, nominating him for three awards. When the night begins, 'Ye will have a chance to win a trophy for Best Rap/Sung Performance (“Ultralight Beam,” "Famous"), Best Rap Song ("Ultralight Beam) and Best Rap Album (The Life of Pablo).

Happily representing Chicago, the ascendant Chance The Rapper has also earned himself a few Grammy noms. On Sunday night, the Acid Rap MC will have the chance to walk home a winner for Best New Artist, Best Rap Song (“No Problem”) and Best Rap Album (Coloring Book). Chano will also get the chance to take the stage at the Grammys, which would be a super-fitting way to celebrate his first nominations--and potentially a few wins. We can only hope.

The Weeknd solidified his status as a superstar with his latest album, Starboyin late 2016, and now, the Grammys are giving him the chance reinforce his fame by letting him perform his critically acclaimed track "I Feel It Coming" with Daft Punk on Sunday night. A Tribe Called Quest will also be performing during the awards show, performing the track "Movin Backwards," off their critically-acclaimed album, We got it from Here...Thank You 4 Your service. The song features Best New Artist nominee Anderson .Paak, who will also join Tribe onstage. Sounds like the proper way to commemorate Phife Dawg's legacy.

Some of music's late and great icons will also be celebrated in tribute performances. Both Prince and George Michael's legacies will be honored by many of the best artists in the business, though performers for each segment have not been revealed yet.

"George Michael and Prince were pop icons who showcased rare musical genius and otherworldly charisma," President/CEO of The Recording Academy Neil Portnow said in a statement. "While each possessed a distinct style and sound, they were both adored by audiences worldwide. The passings of two such creative innovators were a huge loss for the creative community; The Recording Academy is humbled to pay homage to their tremendous legacies on the Grammy stage."

Remy Ma and Fat Joe, Desiigner, D.R.A.M., Schoolboy Q, Lil Yachty, Kendrick Lamar, 2 Chainz, Lil Wayne and DJ Khaled round out the hip-hop nominees at the 2017 Grammy Awards.
