This has been a pretty busy week for fans of the Fast and the Furious franchise. Not only did we get an official title for the eighth film in the series, The Fate of the Furious—  which, for inexplicable reasons that continue to haunt the internet, did not spell ‘fate’ as ‘f8’  —  we also got our first glimpse at new footage courtesy of a trailer tease and promises of a full theatrical trailer on Sunday evening.

Today we found one more gift in our stocking: the first poster for The Fate of the Furious, featuring two very melancholy looking bros and one haunting tagline:

Fate of the Furious Poster

On the poster, we can clearly see the rift between both Vin Diesel and Dwayne Johnson as a result of Johnson calling former a ‘candy ass.’ No, wait, I’m sorry, that’s actually what the two muscle-bound action stars did in real life, not as part of their sprawling movie franchise. Alright, let’s try that again: on the power, we can clearly see the rift between Dom and Hobbs after the former is pulled back into a life of crime by Charlize Theron’s mysterious Cipher. With Paul Walker sadly no longer with us, it would seem that Diesel and company are going to make the tension between these two characters the heart of the franchise. And if this poster seems a bit over-dramatic for a franchise about stealing cars, then I must ask, have you actually ever seen any of these films?

Here’s the full plot synopsis for The Fate of the Furious:

Now that Dom and Letty are on their honeymoon and Brian and Mia have retired from the game  —  and the rest of the crew has been exonerated  —  the globetrotting team has found a semblance of a normal life. But when a mysterious woman seduces Dom into the world of crime he can’t seem to escape and a betrayal of those closest to him, they will face trials that will test them as never before.

From the shores of Cuba and the streets of New York City to the icy plains off the arctic Barents Sea, our elite force will crisscross the globe to stop an anarchist from unleashing chaos on the world’s stage…and to bring home the man who made them a family.

The Fate of the Furious will feature everyone you know from the other films  —  yay, more Michelle Rodriguez!  —  and zoom into theaters on April 14, 2017. Keep your eyes peeled for more trailer information tonight.
