Flight Traveling from Houston to Mississippi Had to Make Emergency Landing at Lafayette Airport

A flight traveling from Houston to Gulfport made an emergency landing at the Lafayette Regional Airport (LFT).

According to a report from KLFY, the routine CommutAir flight made the emergency landing on Sunday while operating for United Airlines.

KLFY spoke with CommutAir who said the reason for the emergency landing was due to "a mechanical issue" that needed to be addressed. Lafayette Regional Airport Executive Director Steven Picou echoed that reasoning, saying that the flight was diverted after smoke entered the cockpit of the aircraft.

Fire crews from LFT and the Lafayette Fire Department were waiting on the scene as the plane safely made the emergency landing and passengers aboard the plane were able to deplane into the Lafayette airport terminal.

CommutAir 4233 departed from George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH) on Sunday, Sept. 11 at 10:42 a.m., according to Flight Aware. Around 11:17 a.m., the flight diverted towards the Lafayette Regional Airport and landed at 11:45 a.m.
