In February of 2014, the former director of the Lafayette Housing Authority, Walter Guillory, pleaded guilty in federal court after an audit revealed financial irregularities.

Guillory was sentenced to twenty-eight months in federal prison for violations of the bid law and bribery. He reported to the federal prison facility in Montgomery, Alabama in July of 2014 to begin serving his sentence.

He has now been hired by the Lafayette Consolidated Government's Parks and Recreation Department according to an official with LCG.

His job title is Athletic Programs Supervisor.

We do expect to get more information about his job duties and who hired Guillory.

Lafayette City-Parish Mayor-President Joel Robideaux says that he has asked the legal department to look into the issue.

Before becoming the Lafayette Housing Authority's executive director, he worked in the same capacity at the Alexandria Housing Authority.

Guillory then became LHA's director in July of 1999. He served in that position through October 2010 when he was asked to resign. From 2005 through 2009, while working in Lafayette, he was also the executive director of the Opelousas Housing Authority.

The Louisiana Legislative Auditor's office issued a report in 2011 stating that actions taken by those working at LHA may have been in violation of Louisiana's constitution.

In March of 2011, the Lafayette Housing Authority was officially taken over by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.
