Former ‘Power Ranger’ Officially Charged With Murder
Ricardo Medina Jr. -- a former Power Rangers actor who was arrested last January for allegedly stabbing his roommate to death -- has been re-arrested and officially charged with the murder.
A detective from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s department arrested the actor outside his home this morning (January 14) and charged him with one count of murder, according to a report from TMZ.
Medina was initially arrested last year after calling 911 to report the death of his roommate, Joshua Sutter. Once cops arrived at the scene, they arrested Medina and booked him for murder. He was released days later, as the Los Angeles County district attorney’s office claimed a more thorough investigation was necessary before making an official charge.
Medina, who starred in Power Rangers Samurai, reportedly spoke with reporters when he was first released, saying, “I’m very, very, very sorry for what occurred. I’m very happy to be out of jail, and my heart goes out to the Sutter family."
But Sutter’s family says Medina was likely rearrested and charged because the evidence wasn't consistent with his initial story. Medina first claimed self-defense against Sutter, who he reportedly stabbed in the abdomen with a sword following an argument the two had. Another investigation, however, reportedly proved Sutter had defensive wounds on his hands. Additionally, the majority of blood was found outside Medina’s room even though the actor claimed he escaped to his room to get away from Sutter.
Should he be convicted of the crime, Medina could face up to 26 years in prison.
