George and Amal Clooney Donate $1 Million to Anti-Hate Group
George Clooney won't tolerate the hate.
In the wake of the events in Charlottesville earlier this month, the Oscar winner and his wife, Amal, are donating $1 million to the Southern Poverty Law Center, CBS reports. The money will come through the actor's Clooney Foundation for Justice.
The Gravity star released a statement explaining why he and Amal felt compelled to make the financial contribution:
Amal and I wanted to add our voice (and financial assistance) to the ongoing fight for equality. There are no two sides to bigotry and hate. What happened in Charlottesville, and what is happening in communities across our country, demands our collective engagement to stand up to hate."
This is merely the latest philanthropic effort for the Clooneys. A few weeks ago, they announced they would be investing more than $2 million to open multiple schools for Syrian refugee kids. Of course, George just signed a deal to sell his tequila business for $1 billion, so he certainly has plenty of cash to spread.
