18-year-old Jaylin Joiner was tragically killed last Friday afternoon in a shocking incident that has left the community in mourning. The Carencro High School student was fatally shot, gunned down while exiting from a school bus, in what his grandmother describes as a "senseless act of violence."

In response to the unexpected and devastating loss, Jaylin's family has initiated a GoFundMe campaign to cover the unforeseen funeral expenses. Jaylin, described by his grandmother, Thea Boudreaux, as a beacon of hope and ambition for his family, was actively working towards a bright future, juggling school responsibilities, a job, and helping out with his siblings.

The GoFundMe notes the significant financial strain Jaylin's passing has placed on his family. "We were not prepared for the high cost of a funeral service. We want to give Jaylin the funeral he deserves, to honor his memory and say our last goodbyes," Boudreaux wrote, asking for community support. Jaylin's mother, who is undoubtedly dealing with the devastating pain of losing her firstborn child, has been unable to return to work, which only increases the financial hardship her family has been blindsided with.

Jaylin's family said the Carencro High School student had goals that will never be reached, such as graduating high school and attending his graduation ceremony, due to the tragedy of his untimely death.

A video shared by his mother, capturing a moment as simple yet significant as determining his ring size for a class ring, is absolutely heartbreaking to watch knowing those dreams will never be fulfilled.

The Lafayette Parish School System has expressed deep sorrow over the loss of one of its students, extending condolences to Jaylin's family, friends, and the Carencro community.

The latest development in this tragic incident has been the arrest of 19-year-old Malikai Doucet, who faces a charge of second-degree murder in connection with Jaylin's death.

Police say there are still other suspects being sought and more arrests will possibly follow.

As the community comes together to support Jaylin's family in their time of need, the family's GoFundeMe goal is to raise $15,000 to cover funeral costs and support his mother and siblings during this difficult time.
