Today, Sept. 16, is the birthday of Atlanta-by-way-of St. Louis producer Leland Wayne, better known to the music world as Metro Boomin.

At just 25, young Metro has crafted some of the craziest beats for the likes of Kanye West, Drake, Lil Wayne and of course Future. Metro has produced some the of biggest hip-hop songs in the last several years: everything from Future's "Honest" and iLoveMakonnen's "Tuesday" to Travis Scott's "3500," Kanye West's "Father Stretch My Hands Pt. 1" and Lil Uzi Vert's "You Was Right." A few years back, XXL talked to Metro about where he first drew inspiration for his signature sound.

"At that time I listened to a lot of Gucci Mane, a lot of Jeezy, Drumma Boy; stuff like that that sounded kind of dark. I listened to a lot of Three 6 Mafia coming up, that was a huge part of it. Even the way they put their beats together, if you go back and look at their music you could see like, 'Okay, he was definitely inspired by them.'"

Metro's name really skyrocketed at  when he helmed most of the production on Future and Drake's joint mixtape, What A Time To Be Alive, in the summer of 2015. It was on this tape that Future thought up the adlib "If Young Metro don't trust you, I'mma shoot you." This adlib would later come into play on Kanye West's "Father Stretch My Hands Pt. 1" off The Life of Pablo and inspire the Internet to create endless memes about Metro's trust issues. In July, Metro linked up with 2016 XXL Freshman 21 Savage and dropped a joint tape called Savage Mode.

Metro was named Producer of the Year at the 2016 BMI R&B/Hip-Hop Awards and in 2017, and that same year he dropped off collab projects with Offset and 21 Savage (Without Warning) as well as Big Sean (Double or Nothing).

Happy Birthday, Young Metro!
