Harahan to Hold Mardi Gras Parade in May [VIDEO]

If you were still singing the blues from missing the entire Mardi Gras season this year, then this is sure to be good news for you. The city of Harahan has announced that they have a Mardi Gras parade that will roll on Memorial Day weekend. The Krewe of Kings will roll on May 30 at 1:00 pm.,and everyone is invited to celebrate the festivities, late or not.

Krewe of Kings captain Mac Cantrell says the parade has been officially moved from Metairie to Harahan and will line up on Hord Street, head down Jefferson Highway and make a u-turn at Folse Street. Cantrell tells WDSU "If you are uncomfortable stay home. If you are upper age and don’t feel safe and you didn’t take the shot I would say don’t come to the parade.”

Harahan Mayor Tim Baudier says the city is already getting ready. They are gearing up by lowering power lines and planning to trim trees so that floats can fit. They are also planning on beefing up police protection and sanitation crews. The parade will have 200 riders and 18 floats. Krewe riders will wear masks and floats. Baudier tells WDSU social distancing might be difficult, but they will do their best to keep everyone safe. However, he will not enforce a mask policy during the parade.

WDSU obtained a statement from the state department of health that said "The governor's proclamation does not yet address parades directly, therefore we have no guidelines for parades to be held safely at this time." Laissez les bons temps rouler, y'all.
