Heavy Rains Causing Road Hazards in Evangeline Parish
For most of the early morning hours rain has been steadily falling outside our studios. There are parts of the state that have gotten a lot less rainfall than we've seen in Lafayette and then there are parts of the state that have certainly gotten more than their fair share of showers from this current weather system.
One of the hardest-hit areas of the state is in Evangeline Parish. That part of the state started getting heavy rainfall early yesterday morning and those significant showers and storms have not really let up that much.
The copious amounts of falling water have created roadways issues on many of the streets that transport motorists in and around the city of Ville Platte. As of early this morning, these roadways were affected by high water.
Tate Cove Rd in city limits
Lasalle St.
N Latour St.
W Lasalle St.
Tiger Lane (Vidrine area)
Opelousas Rd (Hwy 167) almost at the parish line
Rixby Manuel Rd.
Chataignier Rd inside Ville Platte city limits
Amelca Rd. in L'anse aux Pailles
Motorists are reminded, especially in the early hours of the morning when it's hard to see to not attempt to drive over a flooded roadway. While the thoroughfare might look passable, there is no telling just how deep the water might be or how fast it might be moving. it doesn't take much water to move a fully loaded truck off of the road and into the ditch.
Our advice to you is to heed the warnings of emergency services and first responders and for goodness sakes, turn around, don't drown.
