High Pollen Counts Bad News For Acadiana Allergy Sufferers

Mardi Gras has come and gone and the green beer of St. Patrick's day is dried in the bottom of the glass. What's next? Well if you're in South Louisiana you can expect a light yellow dusting on your car just about every other day as Mother Nature unleashes the seasonal hell that is known as allergy season.

According to Pollen.com pollen counts in South Louisiana are going to be on the high side for the next several days. That means those of us who are sensitive to pollen and mold spores will likely notice some watery eyes, running noses, a nagging cough, and a general dislike of the outdoors.

What's exacerbating the pollen conditions in the area is the fact that we really haven't had a good rain in a week or so. Rainfall tends to wash the pollen out of the air and off the leaves of plants and the hoods of cars for those of us who are too lazy to actually wash our car ourselves.

When will the high pollen levels let up? Well, that's not likely anytime soon. We are just getting into the beginning stages of the pollen/allergy season. If you suffer from seasonal allergies I suggest consult your doctor on what medications and treatments might make your symptoms more tolerable.

If you don't want to make that trip to the doctor the pharmacists at your local drug store can likely offer some good over the counter remedies that might work well for you too. Then again, you could just stay inside. Hmmm, I wonder if they will let me work from home?
