2017 has been a year full of ups and downs in the hip-hop community, but the releasing of music has remained consistent. There was a mix of all types of rap styles throughout the year, including trap, mumble rap, lyricism and even more sub-genres, which means that every fan can find something that appeals to them.

XXL asks hip-hop fans what their favorite album of 2017 was to them and the answers ranged from veteran names such as Rick Ross' Rather You Than Me and Kendrick Lamar's DAMN. to rising stars like XXXTentacion's 17 and Smino's blkswn. Some fans even included the names of projects that have been in anticipation for the past couple of years, but finally saw the light of day in 2017, such as CyHi The Prynce's No Dope on Sunday, Jay-Z's 4:44 project, as well as Meek Mill's Wins & Losses.

Taking the year off definitely creates a lot of pressure for those planning to drop in 2018, as they will be coming off of a tough follow up. If we know hip-hop culture, however, there's always something epic coming around the corner.
