A woman wanted in the hit and run death of a Lafayette man turned herself into police officials at the Lafayette Police Department.

They are not releasing this woman's identity at this time according to Lafayette Police Corporal Bridgette Dugas.

She has not booked into the Lafayette Parish Correctional Center because of the current worries over transmission of the Coronavirus, but her family has assured officials that the woman will surrender to arrest at a later time on charges of Felony Hit and Run with Death.

On Sunday evening. police officers were called out to a convenience store in the 800 block of North University after a man was run over. They found him suffering terribly from major injuries.

Dugas says the man was taken to a hospital, but he died from his injuries the following day, Monday, March 30.

What officers could piece together about what happened at around 10 o'clock Sunday, March 29, was that the woman hit 45-year-old Jason Francis in the parking lot.

Dugas says when officers reviewed surveillance video, they were able to get the woman's picture to distribute it to the media.

The woman then turned herself into the police.
