If you've ever seen it in traffic, you have to admit it will really catch your eye. But that's what a 27-foot rolling hot dog in a bun should do, right? Well, that's the strategy behind the Oscar Meyer Wienermobile, a marketing tool used by the company to promote it meat products by making appearances at local grocery stores and shops throughout the country.

The Wienermobile last visited Acadiana on Mother's Day Weekend. I know, what mom wouldn't appreciate seeing a sausage that would be over two stories tall if you stood it on one end? But we digress, that was then and this is now and the iconic meat wagon will be rolling into several south Louisiana communities this weekend.

Fans of processed meat may have caught a glimpse of the Wienermobile in Mamou and Oakdale yesterday, today the giant frankfurter is making a stop in Bunkie. If you'd like to come out for a picture you can do that between 10 am and 3 pm at Lyon's Market on Chevy Lane.

Saturday the Wienermobile will visit Kaplan between 10 and 1 with a stop at Lyon's Market on East First Street. Then the iconic automobile will motor down the road to Jennings for a stop at the Lyons Market on North Cutting later that afternoon.

If you're wondering Oscar Meyer has been promoting their products with the Wienermobile since 1936. The company abandoned the vehicle for a brief time in the 1960s and 70s but the giant rolling sausage returned to the road in 1986 for its 50th anniversary.

Drivers of the giant hot dog are specially trained and yes, it is possible to ride "shotbun" as a passenger in the vehicle but that job is usually handled by the "other driver" on duty. Yes, the Oscar Meyer Wienermobile always travels with at least two operators who are known as "hotdoggers".

If you know the Wienermobile, we bet you know these cars too. How many do you remember?
