There are three episodes left in the run of The Walking Dead, but the story will not end with the show’s series finale. AMC already has a bunch of spinoffs from the zombie series, with several more in the works. You can already watch Fear the Walking Dead and The Walking Dead: World Beyond. The anthology series Tales of the Walking Dead is coming later this year, a film starring former Walking Dead stars Andrew Lincoln and Danai Gurira is in development, and a spinoff starring fan favorite characters Daryl and Carol has previously been announced for 2023.

That show will be joined at some point that same year by the just-announced Isle of the Dead, which will star two more popular Walking Dead characters whose adventures will continue beyond the upcoming Season 11 finale. Here is how AMC describes the new show:

Isle of the Dead envisions the popular Maggie and Negan characters traveling into a post-apocalyptic Manhattan long ago cut off from the mainland.  The crumbling city is filled with the dead and denizens who have made New York City their own world full of anarchy, danger, beauty, and terror.

The show will be run by Eli Jorné, who’s been a writer and producer for The Walking Dead as well as other series like Heels and Wilfred. Longtime Walking Dead stars Lauren Cohan and Jeffrey Dean Morgan will return for the series; here was Morgan’s comment on the news:

I’m delighted that Negan and Maggie’s journey continues.  It’s been such a ride walking in Negan’s shoes, I’m beyond excited to continue his journey in New York City with Lauren.  Walkers in an urban setting has always been such a cool image, but 5th Avenue, Empire State Building, Statue of Liberty?  The greatest city in the world??  The backdrop is amazing, but it’s the story that Eli Jorné cooked up that is even better.  Buckle up folks, Isle of the Dead is going to reinvent the TWD Universe.  Huge thank you to Dan McDermott, Scott Gimple and AMC for having us back for more… we simply can’t wait.

Cohan added “Maggie is very close to my heart and I’m excited to continue her journey against the iconic backdrop of New York City, alongside my friend and collaborator, Jeffrey Dean Morgan.”

AMC also debuted a teaser poster for the show:

So I guess, that’s sort of a spoiler for The Walking Dead finale? We’ll see when the episode premieres on AMC on March 27.
