A woman on Reddit says her mother is demanding pay to babysit one of her grandchildren despite her living with her daughter rent-free.

"I let my mom move in with me and my four children. She's been in our home for about two years now, does not work and does not contribute to the household in many ways. If we're all having a cleanup day, she will join but really only out of not being the only one not helping," the woman began, adding she has three kids ages 13, 11, 8 and an 8-month-old baby.

She shared that her mother currently only babysits the 8-month-old, and only while she is at work providing for the family. While the woman's mother wants to go back to work, she only wants a work-from-home job. She also recently asked her daughter to pay her to watch her grandchild.

"...She comes to me and tells me she now wants to be paid for keeping my son so that she can buy her own products, which I understand. She wants to feel like she doesn't have to ask me continuously to buy her things, I get it. Now, I didn't say no, but in the back of my mind I don't really want to pay her because she already lives, eats, sleeps every day for free and I feel a little selfish for this," the woman continued.

She added that her family is divided over whether or not to pay the grandmother for babysitting.

"Some family feel like if I don't it would be an a--hole move because she does me a service by babysitting, understandable. Some feel like she's already living for free so I shouldn't have to come out of pocket and pay her when I'm giving her a place to stay. I'll probably just pay her but [am I wrong] for not wanting to?" she concluded.

"Time to give her a deadline to move out," one user suggested.

"If she wants to get paid for babysitting then split the house bills," another wrote.

"Her doing you the 'service' is how she's paying you for living there rent-free," someone else commented.

"If you pay her, she can start paying rent and all of her other expenses," another user shared.
